VARO , a leading European energy company, introduced its ONE VARO Transformation strategy in July 2022, with the goal of becoming a key partner in the energy transition by providing customers the sustainable and reliable energy solutions they need to decarbonize, e.g. biofuels, biogas, e-mobility and hydrogen. VARO itself has set its own ambitious net zero target at 2040.

Given the regulated nature of VARO’s operations, there already exists a robust compliance framework. However, VARO’s fast growth and ambitious strategy necessitates a reevaluation of the compliance function and operational approach due to emerging compliance requirements, regulatory shifts, and market dynamics.

To address this, VARO is hiring a Group Compliance Manager, focused on centralizing and monitoring all compliance (related) activities in the organization. Reporting directly to the Group’s General Counsel, the Compliance Manager will ensure ethical and compliant operations while supporting departments across the company.

The Compliance Manager will be responsible for implementing and executing the already designed plan for the compliance landscape the coming years

The Group Compliance Manager will proactively manage compliance risks,

collaborate with business units, and enhance VARO’s compliance practices. The

Compliance Manager will be responsible for implementing and executing the

already designed plan for the compliance landscape the coming years. The plan

encompasses, a.o. , the following components:

Compliance Governance : refine compliance governance through the

Three Lines Model, aligning committee structures and creating a

Compliance Risk Management : enhance processes, standardize

evaluation, and develop balanced KPIs/KRIs.

Compliance Risk Culture : foster compliance through integrated training

Compliance Enablers : assess expertise gaps and introduce centralized IT

solutions, automating end-to-end compliance processes.We In risk

Ensure full regulatory compliance, coordinating reviews, and assessments.

Anticipating risks and guide ethical practices in new ventures.

Seamlessly integrate compliance expertise into VARO’s operations, captivating key

committees with concise reports. Additionally, provide valuable insights on

resource requirements for effective risk management.

Develop and enforce policies to fill gaps, stay updated on regulations and best

practices, engage with regulators as needed, and swiftly report breaches for

Completed university education in business administration, economics or law.

Minimum of 5 years of compliance experience.

Strong project management skills and ability to set priorities and deadlines.

Committed team player, ability to connect with all levels of the organization.

Relevant sector qualification and/or industry experience is a good to have.

Working in a modern, growing European company in the Port of Rotterdam

(“Kop van Zuid”), focused on the energy transition.

Direct access to senior management, e.g. the Executive Board members and

many other senior operational, commercial and support directors.

The work will encompass international travel across various European offices.
