Climate-proof soils by steering soil and residue microbiomes - ClipsMicro
Are you ready to dive into the world of microbial ecology applied to agricultural research? Join us in the "ClipsMicro" project at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO) and play a crucial role in developing nature-based agricultural management strategies. Our primary goal is to enhance soil quality, increase carbon sequestration, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This exciting project combines science and collaboration with stakeholders, with a strong focus on soil microbial ecology and biogeochemistry.
As a student in this project, you will take on a pivotal role. Your responsibilities will include conducting pot experiments in climate chambers, collecting plant exudates, and testing their capacity to promote Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI). You will be working with assays with microbial cultures, cultivating, maintaining, and ensuring their purity. Additionally, you may be involved in metabolomics and molecular biology experiments. This project offers an opportunity for MSc. students to develop their research questions and contribute to the future of sustainable agriculture in the Netherlands.
Background in biological or soil sciences;
Strong self-motivation and the ability to work independently;
Proficiency in English (English is the working language at NIOO).
Supervisor: MSc. Gabriel S. Rocha (PhD Student); Dr. Paul Bodelier; Prof. Eiko Kuramae
Location: Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO)
If you are passionate about sustainable agriculture, improving soil health, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, this opportunity is your chance to make a significant impact. Contact Gabriel S. Rocha at [staat bij de werkgever] to express your interest and learn more about the research project.
