MARIN is happy to offer students in intermediary and higher professional education (MBO and HBO) and at university the opportunity to gain work experience and/or complete their graduation projects. That’s a great career step because many of MARIN’s graduation projects stem from concrete, real-world requests from colleagues and clients. Our experts will supervise you and you’ll work closely with them. Onboarding at MARIN starts with two days of intensive introduction to all our divisions and teams. We’ll take you on a tour of our buildings and facilities, where ambassadors for each division will give a presentation of what they do and whom you need to see for each subject. ‘Kompas’, our intranet, also offers a handy aid to track down the right people, arrangements, resources and documents. But the real centre of MARIN’s onboarding is the personal supervisor in your division and the daily on-the-job training. Your supervisor will initiate you into MARIN’s systems and ways of working and will hook you up to the right people to work with. For new colleagues from abroad MARIN helps to make the transfer to the Netherlands as smooth as possible. For non-Dutch speakers we can offer an effective language programme.

‘I manage projects from the customer’s initial request right through to final delivery. Many of those projects are aimed at developing an efficient hull design and propulsion system suited to the vessel in question. Optimalisations like these are always challenging, because every vessel design is different. My colleagues and I regularly have to test in our basins whether the design performs as it should. That’s always a tense moment. I’m always happy when we come up with a good design for the client that can be immediately implemented for the ship. As such my job isn’t confined to just managing projects; I’m also concerned with their substance. And that’s what makes this job so interesting and satisfying. Plus, I like the working atmosphere and openness at MARIN. Everyone pulls together to deliver quality for our clients.’
