Senior PHP Developer | Amsterdam | E-Commerce

About the companyOur client is an e-commerce platform active throughout Europe, managing Shopping campaigns for webshops of all sizes, from small retailers to major players like Ebay, Amazon, AliExpress, and more. They retrieve product feeds from webshops, process them, and upload them to advertising platforms. This amounts to roughly 1 billion product listings per day. The scale is large, the systems are complex, and there's always plenty of work to do.

The tech team consists of 8 people and works from Amsterdam, with 3 colleagues based abroad. English is the working language due to the international nature of the team. The culture is informal: little bureaucracy, daily standups, and lots of freedom to organize your own work. There's a large backlog and plenty of challenges for the coming years. The foundation is solid, but there's a lot to improve in terms of architecture, observability, and scalability. You won't be building something from scratch here, but rather improving and expanding what's already running.

What will you be doing?You'll work on the backend of a platform that processes, transforms, and uploads product feeds. The codebase has grown organically over the years and needs attention in several areas. You'll spot where things can be improved and take action to make it happen. You'll work closely with a small DevOps team and an operations team that manages the campaigns daily and depends on what you build.

What this looks like in practice:

You build and improve existing backend functionality in PHP and Laravel.

You contribute to better observability, logging, and monitoring of the platform.

You work with DevOps on the pipelines and the Kubernetes infrastructure on AWS.

You identify technical debt and proactively address it.

You help think through the architectural direction of the platform.

The team is currently looking for someone who can operate at a senior level and continue to be hands-on, but who also has the ambition to grow into a Lead Developer position over time. If you have that combination, there's room to map out that path together.

Who are they looking for?

Demonstrable seniority in PHP, Laravel experience, or the willingness to grow into it.

You understand how to not only build a system but also keep it running: CI/CD, observability, logging.

Affinity with DevOps without being a specialist.

Strong communicator, including with non-technical colleagues. You see collaboration as part of your work, not an interruption to it.

Good command of the English language.

Available at least 32 hours per week.

Ambition to grow into a Lead Developer role over time.
